Bellefontaine’s varsity girls tennis team was unable to put a crack into Kenton Ridge on Monday as the host Cougars took a 5-0 victory in Central Buckeye Conference play.
The Chiefs fall to 5-11 overall and 4-10 in the CBC.
Bellefontaine beat the Cougars 3-2 in their first matchup this season.
“They beefed up their doubles teams and that made a difference,” said BHS head coach Jim Stein. “We lost a couple of tough three-setters.”
In singles play, the Cougars’ Ashley Wallace won 6-3, 6-0 over Madeline Houser, Kenton Ridge’s Franziska Pippig prevailed 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 over Kiersten Daum and the Cougars’ Carlie Castiaux won 6-2, 6-2 over Hannah Weimer.
Kenton Ridge’s first doubles team of Emily Bonak and Olivia Zink won 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 over Kenzie Collinsworth and Michelle Frantz, while the Cougars’ Danielle Thomas and Hannah Zawapa recorded a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Kylee Jenkins and Ashley Enderle at second doubles.
In a reserve doubles match, Bellefontaine’s Brandy Cole and Traysa Downing lost 6-1, 6-4.
Bellefontaine returns to action today at home against Greenon.
