The West Liberty Historical Society has been restoring the Town Hall. We hope to finish by 2017, the 200th birthday of the village. Work on the first floor would begin this fall. Any infrastructure work there will be connected to restoring the upper level Opera House when we get to that final phase. At that time we hope to use volunteer labor. Public restrooms are even in the planning. They will be a welcome addition to the downtown. There are opportunities for naming plaques at windows in the Opera House. What a wonderful way to honor loved ones. This grand building built in 1868 has seen traveling show, plays, movies and Chautauqua events. The lighting of the town Christmas tree takes place outside. Parades pass this central point. Ice cream socials, concerts, fish fries, bean suppers and Santa visits are other special events. If all who are able could make a tax free donation soon, this work can continue on the offices and meeting rooms that are the heart beat of the village.
