Steven L. Hall

Steven L. Hall, 67, of Marysville, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at home with his daughters, Janel and Janae, by his side. He bravely endured complications of a brain tumor diagnosed 12 weeks ago.

He was born in Bellefontaine on Sept. 1, 1947, to the late Pete and Millie Westfall Hall. He also was preceded in death by an infant grandchild.

He is survived by two daughters, Janel (Neil Tennant) Hall of Grandview Heights and Janae (Brian) Mulvaine of Marysville; three grandsons, Henry and Hugo Tennant and Conner Mulvaine; his siblings; and many other relatives and friends, including Bud and Mary Hall, Alma Lou Westfall, Chris Westfall and Curt and Kathy Westfall.

A 1965 graduate of Logan Hills High School, he received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Columbus State University. He graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy and was a public servant for more than 20 years, beginning his career as an Ohio State Highway Patrolman in Lancaster and later at the Van Wert post. He was a former police chief in Forest and also served on The Ohio State University police force. Following his OSU tenure, he transferred to Marysville where he worked in investigations with the Union County Sheriff’s Office and for the Union County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

He served for many years until recently as the zoning inspector for Dover and Paris Townships in Union County. He also was a driving instructor for Top Driver School.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the military police during the Vietnam War. He received an Army Commendation Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

He was a passionate golfer and an accomplished maker of golf clubs. He liked shopping, yard sales and antiquing. He loved hot air balloons and never missed attending an All-Ohio Balloon Rally in Marysville.

His friends and family will remember him as funny, hard-working and ethical.

Graveseside services were today in Mt. Herman Cemetery, with military honors by the Union County Military Funeral Honor Guard, and followed by a luncheon at Dover Township Hall.
