Richard Edwin Ray Jr., 71, of Bellefontaine, formerly of Bunker Hill, Ill., passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013, in Albuquerque, N.M.
He was born in Fayette County, Ill., on Nov. 11, 1941, a son of Nellie Lucile Break Ray of Bethalto, Ill., and the late Richard Edwin Ray Sr.
On Aug. 31, 1963, he married the former Sheryl Bond in East Alton, Ill., and she survives in Bellefontaine, along with two daughters, Rhonda (Charles) Bingaman of Bellefontaine and Patricia (Ken) Beerup of Collinsville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Derek and Megan Bingaman of Bellefontaine and Bryce Ray of Collinsville, Ill.; four sisters, Nancy Zumwalt of Bethalto, Ill., Sue (Dennis) Ratliff of Wood River, Ill., Vicki (Marty) Myers of Bethalto, Ill., and Karen (Walter) Moss of East Alton, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Rocky.
He was a forklift driver at Olin Corporation in East Alton, Ill., until his retirement. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine and was a blood donor.
He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting and blackberry picking, and loved to watch the Three Stooges and Pawn Stars.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to a funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home, Bethalto, Ill., with Pastor Willard Meyer officiating. Burial follows at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
