Nelson E. Breidenbach, 86, of Belle Center, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Cherith Care Center at Willow Brook, Delaware, Ohio.

He was born in Forest on June 15, 1926, to the late Walter and Gertrude Long Breidenbach.

On April 20, 1947, he married the former Patricia Helen Wooley in Kenton and she preceded him in death Sept. 27, 2007. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen, and three brothers, Wesley, Marion and Kenny Breidenbach.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary H. (Ray) Barrett of Powell; a granddaughter, Katherine (Michael) Barrett Brewer of Worthington; his sister, Thelma (Bill) Freed of Arlington; two brothers, Lawrence (Donna) Breidenbach and Harold (Eileen) Breidenbach, both of Findlay; his cousin, Jim and Judy Lynch of Linden, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and “Woody.”

A mechanic, Nelson loved horses and was a trainer for 20 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, served aboard the USS San Francisco and witnessed the flag rising on Iwo Jima.   

He was a member of the Professional Archery Association and the U.S. Trotting Association. He was a pilot, bow hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed all nature.

He loved to travel and enjoyed The Ohio State University basketball.

Family is requesting casual dress, no ties, for visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Belle Center, and the graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday in the Dunkirk Cemetery, Dunkirk, where the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard leads a military service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to David E. Sherman, Crane Creek Wildlife Research Station, Ohio Division of Wildlife, 13229 W. State Route 2, Oak Harbor 43449; and to Honor Flight Inc., Attn: Diane Gresse, 300 E. Auburn Ave., Springfield 45505.
