Merry May Rogers

Surrounded by her loving family, Merry May Rogers, 89, of Granville, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 5, 2013.

She was born May 1, 1923, in Zanesfield to the late Layton and Grace Hurley Shoots.

She was a devout Christian and dedicated her life to her family and God. She was a devoted wife, and as a mother of seven children, she was a natural, creative teacher and wise disciplinarian. She worked hard gardening and canning on a farm in Gahanna, where her children were raised. Retired with her husband to a farm near Bellefontaine, she enjoyed music, bird watching, and grandchildren. In later years in Granville, she was an ever affectionate caregiver to her husband of 56 years, the late Otis C. Rogers Jr., and a dear matriarch to a growing family. She lived up to her name, as she will be fondly remembered as a joyous, loving, merry person.

Surviving are her sons, Darrell (Sue) Rogers of Colorado Springs, and Dean (Tracey) Rogers of Seville; daughters, Evelyn (Vern) Walker and Deanna (Jim) Windon, both of Granville, and Julie (Kevin) Murphy of Heath; son-in-law, Paul Jenks of Granville; grandchildren, Patty (Jeff) Hussey, Janet (Larry) Cotner, Kristy (Dan) Cross, Adam Rogers, Graham (Karen) Rogers, Patrick (Jesus Uresti) Walker, Bob (Erika) Murphy, Matthew Windon, Samantha (Brian) Hower, James Rogers, Sarah Rogers and Jacob Rogers; stepgrandson, Eric (Megan) Vannatta; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Julianna, Danny and Ellie Hussey, Jackson and Max Cotner, Keegan and Kooper Cross, Cohen and Lachlan Murphy, and twins on the way; and brother, James (Martha) Shoots of Sunbury.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Priscilla Jenks; a son, David Rogers; a granddaughter, Dee Jai Rogers; and six sisters.

A memorial service celebrating her life begins at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hills Baptist Church, 1820 Newark-Granville Road, Granville, with Pastor Jeff Smith as celebrant.

Memorial contributions may be made to Spring Hills Baptist Church, 1820 Newark-Granville Road, Granville, OH 43023 and National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163.
