Mary Alice Neer, 73, of North Lewisburg, formerly of Urbana, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 in Memorial Hospital of Union County.

She was born in Springfield on April 14, 1939, a daughter of the late Bartley J. Sr. and Opal Mae Green Cauley. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Neer; son-in-law, Albert “Red” Myers; brother, Bart Cauley Jr.; sisters-in-law, Becky Capper, Shelby Cauley and Iris Cauley.

She is survived by her daughters, Vickie Myers of Lewistown and Teresa (John) Castle and Jodi (Robin) Jackson, both of North Lewisburg; grandchildren, Amber, Jennifer, Daryl, Jerrod, Jason, Mandi, Dusty, Savannah, Justin, Tyler and Charity; great-grandchildren, Brian, Braxton, Caden, Macie, Kaser, Ayden, Luke, Caleb, Peyton, Harmoni, Faith, Trennity, Naviah, Jerri and Falicia; brothers, John (Judy) Cauley of Urbana, Don Capper of New Carlisle, Robert (Tanya) Cauley of Mingo, Richard Cauley of Russells Point, William Cauley of North Lewisburg and Timothy (Anne) Cauley of Springfield; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as special friend, Mary Godwin of Marysville.

A graduate of St. Mary Catholic School, Mary Alice’s was the last graduating class from St. Mary School.

Mary Alice enjoyed shopping, singing, yodeling and introducing new friends to pickle burgers. She was always known for her famous scalloped potatoes.

Many knew her as a very ‘happy lady.’ She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pastor Roger Childers officiates a funeral at 1 p.m. Monday at the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana, where visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Mutual.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any local VFW; or the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, PO Box 163549, Columbus 43216-3549.
