Harley Frederick Furer

Harley Frederick Furer, 86, of Mt. Victory, died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at his residence.

He was born in Mt. Victory on Dec. 18, 1926, to the late Henry and Inez Rizor Furer. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Furer; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Hooper Jones.

On Dec. 22, 1948, he married Edith Deon Brady in Greenup, Ky., and she survives in Mt. Victory, along with a daughter, Karen (Jim) Wolend of Amherst; three sons, Alan Furer of Marysville, Dan Furer of Ridgeway and Thomas (Carol) Furer of West Mansfield; 11 grandchildren, Richard, Andrew, Jeremy, Brian, Jeffery, Tenley, Mandy, Joseph, Tyler, Katie and Tim; 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Johnny (Jean) Furer of Richwood and Lloyd (Jackie) Furer of Wisconsin.

A lifelong farmer, Harley’s farm south of Mt. Victory is listed in the Ohio Century Farm program.

He attended Mt. Pleasant Church of God and was a member of the Mt. Victory VFW and Moose Lodge.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Philippine Islands, and served in Japan with the U.S. Occupational forces after the war.

He was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Pastor Andrew Stahler officiates a funeral at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home, Mt. Victory, with visitation two hours prior. Burial is in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, with military rites by AMVETS Post 1994. Memorial contributions may be made to Hardin County Hospice.
