Chester “Chet” Neil Young, 86, of Lakeview, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Shawnee Manor, Lima.
He was born in Amanda on March 30, 1926, a son of the late Oscar and Ethel Young.
On Aug. 16, 1947, he married the former Dorothy Maxine Zimmerman and she preceded him in death Nov. 23, 2000. He also was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Owen Young; 10 brothers, Kenneth, Floyd, Frederick, Orville, Lester, Donald, Lawrence, Harry, Richard and Robert; and a sister, Flora Mae Young.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie (Virginia Carol) Young of Lima and Tommy Lynn (Pamela) Young of Napoleon; two brothers, Emerson (Sharon) Young of Marysville and Oscar (Lois) Young Jr. of Mt. Perry; two sisters, Loretta (Jack) Breen of Madison, Wis., and Martha Jane (Jack) Iarussi of Baltimore, Ohio; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Chet was a member of the Roundhead United Methodist Church, former member of the VFW Post 8832 and Indian Lake Moose Lodge 1533, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he was a gunnersmate 3rd class and served on an anti-aircraft gun boat.
He was a truck driver at Schwerman Trucking for 24 years. He drove a school bus for Upper Scioto Valley for 14 years and farmed during his early years.
The Rev. Philip Brenneman officiates a funeral at 2 p.m. Friday at Armentrout Funeral Home, Waynesfield, where visitation is two hours prior. Burial will full military honors is in Roundhead Cemetery.
