James Edward Crain, 67, of West Mansfield, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in his home.
He was born in Columbus on Sept. 29, 1945, a son of the late James Franklin and Ida Jane Piper Crain. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Crain; brother, Samuel David Crain; sisters, Nancy Crain, Mary Ellen Stinson and Linda Marie Crain; father-in-law, James Everett Withrow; and nephew, Billy Tussing.
He is survived by his son, James David (Randi) Crain of Zanesfield; his granddaughters, whom he adored, Brittany Nicole Crain, Ayla Jane Crain (Brock) Brogan of East Liberty, Miranda Lynn Crain and Jaymie Dawn Crain; great-granddaughter, Harley Jane Marie Brogan; brother, Daniel Leroy (Frances) Crain of West Mansfield; sisters, Cindy Louise (Roy) Ransom of Adel, Iowa, and Ruth Ann (Gary) King of Falmouth, Ky.; mother-in-law, Margaret Withrow of North Lewisburg; several nieces and nephews, including Bob Tussing of Raymond; and great-nephew, Austin Tussing of Raymond.
A U.S. Army veteran, James served his country in the Republic of Vietnam with the 23rd Military Police Company, Americal Division.
James worked at Navistar TSPC for nearly 20 years and was a member of the International Harvester UAW.
He enjoyed working on cars and tractors and gunsmithing.
Pastor Russell Street officiates a funeral at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Freshwater, McDonald & Vernon Funeral Home, North Lewisburg, with visitation one hour prior. Burial follows in Maple Grove Cemetery, North Lewisburg. Following the services, a meal will be provided at the Woodstock Freewill Baptist Church.
