Hockett, Omar L., 93, of Springfield, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Essex of Springfield Nursing Home.
He was born in Bellefontaine on July 2, 1919, a son of the late Omar and Glenna Hockett. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Hockett; and grandson, Kirk Calph.
Survivors include two sons, Lile “Doug” (Brenda) Hockett and Thomas Hockett; two daughters, Phyllis (Edward) Calph and Susan Thompson; grandchildren, Edward Calph, Lyle “Tony” Hockett, Petra Deaton, Rachel Snyder, Amanda Jackson and Kerri Hockett; several great-grandchildren; sister, Laura Mader; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A toolmaker in his early life and after retirement, he graduated from Clark State Community College with an associate degree in accounting. He was an avid reader and a very genuine, loving family man.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson Lytle & Lewis Funeral Home, Springfield, where Pastor Walter Mock officiates a celebration of life at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial is at Ferncliff Cemetery.
