Joseph D. Ledley, 88, of Ridgeway, died at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Kenton Nursing and Rehab.
He was born in Franklin County on June 16, 1924, to the late Lester and Hazel Retterer Ledley. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Charles.
On April 17, 1948, he married Jean McIntosh in Ridgeway, and she survives in Kenton, along with one son, James (Patty) Ledley of Kenton; one daughter, Janie (Richard) Seiler of Mt. Victory; two granddaughters, Lisa (Thomas) Dalton of Kenton and Lora (Wade) McElderry of Lima; three great-grandchildren, Rachel Dalton of Kenton and Emma and Sean McElderry of Lima; stepgrandson, Josh (Steph) Palmer of Kenton; one great-stepgrandchild, Drayton Palmer of Kenton; and a sister, Barbara Haymond of Mt. Victory.
A U.S. Army World War II veteran of the Battle of the Bulge, he worked at D.A.B. Industries of Bellefontaine.
He umpired baseball and softball in Hardin and Logan counties for more than 40 years, was a former member of Ridgeway VFW and Ridgemont Athletic Boosters. He also kept stats for the Ridgemont football and boys and girls basketball teams for several years.
He served as a Ridgeway council member, was a former member of Top of Ohio Umpire Association and was an avid Michigan and Yankees fan.
The Rev. Phillip Compton officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at Price Funeral Home, Mt. Victory, where visitation is from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Burial is in Hale Cemetery, with military rites by AMVETS Post 1994.
