John W. Howell, 82, of Bellefontaine, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born in Cambridge on July 19, 1930, a son of John F. and Lena Larrison Howell. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Harold Howell; one sister Mary Jirles; and one granddaughter, Shari Lynn Howell.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Anker Howell; daughters, Soozie (Justin) Keller and Trisha Burton; son, John David (Nancy) Howell; grandchildren, Shelley (Don) Robbins, John C. (Renee) Howell, Andrea Burton, Bethany Burton, Nicole Burton, Keisha Keller, Jamie Brannon, Chad (Mo) Keller and Dereck (Shannon) Keller; seven great-grandchildren, Toni, Damien, Samuel, Hannah, Holden, Makenzie and Hayden; and a brother, Bob Farrar of Arizona.
A 1948 graduate of Cambridge High School, he retired as a master sergeant after proudly serving 20 years in the United States Air Force. He also was retired from DAB after 19 years.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and playing cards. His special times were spent with his kids and grandchildren and his beloved dog, Meko.
Burial with graveside military honors in Highland Memorial Cemetery followed a gathering today at Jennings Farley Funeral Home, West Liberty.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Logan County Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
