Barbara J. Bassler, 81, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, in the Mary Rutan Hospital Emergency Department.
She was born in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Sept. 11, 1931, to the late Arvid E. and Violet J. Lewis Peterson.
In 1951, she married George C. Bassler in Colorado Springs and he preceded her in death in May 1987. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Arvid Peterson Jr. and Robert Peterson.
Barbara is survived by her children, Linda K. (Michael) Smith of Bellefontaine and Robert (Sarah) Bassler of Columbus; a sister, Carolyn (Herb) Locy of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Lori (Jeff) Maben, Sherrye (Scott) Lamma, Jason (Katie) Bassler and Chris (Ariel) Bassler; four stepgrandchildren, Kevin Smith, Ryan (Julie) Smith, Tiffany (Glenn) Rector and LeAnn (Adam) Taylor; seven great-grandchildren, Kyle Harris, Tyler Bassler, Morgan Jenkins, Alex, Andruw and Austin Lamma, and Emily Bassler; great-stepgrandchildren, Brittany Chandler, Megan Bowersock and Andrew Smith; and 10 great-great-stepgrandchildren.
A homemaker, Barbara was a member of the DAV and enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, flowers, gardening, and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.
Pastor Jonathan Bull conducts a funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at the Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, where visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the funeral Friday. Burial is in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
