Phyllis Jeánne Fitzpatrick, 87, of Bellefontaine, passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
She was born in Bellefontaine on June 29, 1925, to the late Dean J. and Bessie P. Blackmore Stafford.
On Feb. 11, 1949, she married Ralph Edward Fitzpatrick in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death Nov. 19, 2007. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Dean Stafford.
Surviving are her children, Michael (Judy) Fitzpatrick and Jerry (Lynn) Fitzpatrick, both of Bellefontaine, Mary Ellen (Patrick Horgan) Fitzpatrick of Columbus and Julia Anne (Timothy) Fitzpatrick-Cooper of St. Charles, Ill.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A 1943 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, Phyllis worked for the Army Air Force during World War II serving in Washington, D.C. After she was married, she worked at Westinghouse in Bellefontaine and then for Dr. William Doup. She was the former owner/operator of McKee’s Creek Antiques.
Phyllis was a huge Bellefontaine Chieftain fan and a longtime supporter. For 20-plus years she was a mentor for middle school and high school student athletes and was awarded the BHS Booster of the Year title. She served on the Junior Guild at Mary Rutan Hospital.
Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine. The Rev. Patrick L. Sheridan officiates a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bellefontaine. Burial follows in the Calvary Cemetery Columbarium.
Family has requested that memorial contributions be made to BHS Athletic Boosters, c/o Bellefontaine High School, 820 Ludlow Road, Bellefontaine 43311; and to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 328 E. Patterson Ave., Bellefontaine 43311.
