Benton James Hakes, 44, of Huntsville, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, July 11, 2014, at his home.
Ben was born in Columbus on Feb. 12, 1970, a son of Woodrow (Ruth) Hakes of London, Ohio, and Donna (Gary) Thompson Lewis of Lakeview.
On June 29, 1991, he married the former Heather Snow at the Indian Lake Community Church in Russells Point and she survives, along with their daughter, Taylor (Brandon Goings) Hakes of Huntsville; two sons, Zayne and Carder; a sister, Shelley Smelcer of Lima; a brother, Mike Thompson of Columbus; three sisters-in-law, Bobbi Spofford of Lancaster, and Michelle (Don) Klingler and Rosa Miller, both of DeGraff; a brother-in-law, Raymond (Heather) Snow of Lancaster, and father- and mother-in-law, Raymond and Rebecca Snow of DeGraff; an uncle, George (Sherry) Hakes of Columbus; an aunt, Joan Hakes in Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Karena Lindemore; and uncles, Philip Thompson, Eddie Thompson and James Hakes.
A 1988 graduate of Indian Lake High School, Ben was an extremely valued employee of Reliant Mechanical for more than 20 years, where he was an estimator/project manager.
He enjoyed fishing, was an excellent cook and proud of his manicured lawn.
Ben loved being with his family and will be dearly missed.
A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Indian Lake Community Church, where visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, and one hour prior to the service Thursday.
