Agnes E. Arthur, 92, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday morning, June 10, 2014, at the OSU Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.
Agnes was born in Logan County on Aug. 11, 1921, to the late William H. and Alice E. Davis Ward.
On April 6, 1947, she married Ernest Bertell Arthur in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death Aug. 26, 1969. She also was preceded in death by a son, John William Hone; two grandchildren, Ben and Jodi; siblings, Elizabeth Ward, Martha Gilbert, Jenny Ledrick, Margaret Gilbert, Dorothy Gilbert, Dan Ward, Charles Ward, Ruth Weldon and Alice Karg; her special friend, Ray Ricketts of West Liberty; and her uncle, Dan Davis, who helped raise Agnes and her siblings.
She is survived by her children, Judy Ostermyer and Ruby (Floyd) Brenner, both of Bellefontaine, Ray B. (Karen) Arthur of Russells Point and Chuck (Joanna) Arthur of Bellefontaine; stepchildren, Leo Arthur of Florida, and Ruth Ann (Larry) Peters and Gerri Allen, both of Bellefontaine; 13 grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
Agnes retired from Bulldog/Siemens after 26 years of work and then retired again at the age of 85 after bartending at the VFW, Eagles and Moore’s Cafe. She was a member of the American Legion, VFW and was a Golden Eagle member.
She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, cracking walnuts and taking casino trips. Agnes attended Gretna Brethren Church.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, where Pastor Larry Brown officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial is in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
