Jack M. Lane Sr., 83, of Huntsville, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Campbell Place in Bellefontaine.
He was born in Hilliard on June 24, 1930, to the late William and Edna Grubb Lane.
On Aug. 9, 1952, he married the former Josephine Irene Coleman in Columbus and she preceded him in death April 3, 2012. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Lane.
He is survived by his three children, Brenda Sue (Gary) Steed of Findlay, William Paul (Karen) Lane of Lebanon and J.R. (Nina) Lane of Huntsville; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Ben) Nauman, Cindy Steed, Laura Steed, Christy (Shaun) Bensman, David Lane, Billy (Cailean) Lane, Patrick Lane and Caitlyn Lane; nine great-grandchildren, Olivia, Haidyn, Samantha, Brooklyn, Cohen, Noah, Isabella, Harper and Chloe; a sister, Jane Gooding of Tennessee; a brother, Jim (Phyllis) Lane of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was a 1950 graduate of Central High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Following his service to his country, Jack worked as a pattern maker at General Castings and retired in 1994.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lakeview and loved to fish, camp and spend winters in Florida. His lifelong hobby and passion was woodworking.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Eichholtz Funeral Home, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, with an AMVETS service at 6:45 p.m. Father Harold Kist conducts a funeral at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pastor Laura Steed leads a committal service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Cemetery and Memorial Park in Columbus.
