Maudie J. Gay, 83, of Waynesfield, died at 10:44 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, surrounded by her family at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born in Belle Center on Aug. 24, 1930, a daughter of the late Adam and Eunice Dotson Prater.
On June 18, 1950, she married her husband of 61 years, Don Gay, in Belle Center, and he preceded her in death March 28, 2012. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Beechel Prater; two sisters, Sally Prater and Helen Prater Exline; son-in-law, Ben Yale; and sisters-in-law and a niece.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Gay of Columbus; daughter, Bonnie Yale of Waynesfield; grandchildren, David Yale of San Jose, Calif., and Jennifer (Ryan) Kidd of West Chester; great-grandchildren, Graham and Ava Kidd of West Chester; a sister, Dixie (Ralph) Ray of Bellefontaine; brothers-in-law, Joe (Mary) Gay and Howard Ridenour; and many nieces and nephews.
A 1948 graduate of Belle Center High School, Maudie was a member of the Belle Center Church of Christ and co-owner of Unit Forms (formerly Gay Printing) in Waynesfield. She loved her family and enjoyed crafts and crocheting.
Pastor John Watkins of the Belle Center Church of Christ and Pastor Don Smith of Waynesfield Baptist Church officiate a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Armentrout Funeral Home, Waynesfield, where visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial is in Willow Branch Cemetery, Waynesfield.
