Anthony R. “Tony” Salyers, 62, of Lima, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 11, 2014, at his home.
Tony was born on Dec. 27, 1951, in Jackson, Ky., to the late Tom Salyers and Gladys Spencer Salyers Pitts. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Harlis J. Pitts.
Tony is survived by four brothers, Wayne (Maxine) Salyers of Wapakoneta, Rick (Sue) Pitts of Russells Point, Glen (Barbara) Salyers of Jackson, Ky., and Doug (Cristina) Pitts of Westerville; two nieces; a nephew; and many close friends.
A 1972 graduate of Indian Lake High School, Tony retired from the Lima Ford Engine Plant after 30 years and was a member of the UAW Local 1219 in Lima.
Tony was a lifelong supporter and avid fan of Indian Lake athletics and staunch fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Reds.
He enjoyed fishing, and was well-known for his outstanding recollection of numbers and people, as he could remember detailed statistics for decades of games, jersey numbers of most any sports player when asked, and often greeted friends by their license plate numbers.
He was a dedicated brother and loved his family greatly. Tony was loved and will be greatly missed by many people in the Indian Lake area.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, where a funeral begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery.
