Richard A. “Dick” Luke, 68, passed away at 7:41 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
He was born in Lima on March 17, 1945, to Levi and Rose Gahret Luke, who preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Evelyn Luke; and a brother-in-law, William Anderson.
He is survived by three brothers, Larry (Margert) Luke of Estero, Fla., David Luke of Lima and Steve (Cathy) Luke of Lima; two sisters, Rosalyn (Stanley) Prater of Lima and Shirley Anderson of Cridersville; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Bullit.
Richard was a professional soldier with the U.S. Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired in 1996 after serving for 28 years.
A member of VFW Post 1275 in Lima, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed planting and working in his huge garden.
Chaplain Dick Coon officiates a funeral at 10 a.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel, Lima, where visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the funeral.
Burial with military rites performed by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and VFW Post 1275 is at Memorial Park Cemetery.
