Daniel Fredric “Pappy” Detwiler, 79, of Maumee, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Dan was born in Urbana on Oct. 18, 1934, to the late Howard and Alice Johnson Detwiler. He also was preceded in death by his daughter, Tamara Ann.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Phyllis; son, Dan (Sandee) Detwiler; granddaughter, Nikki Carey; grandson, Jason (Amy) Loch; great-grandchildren, Jayson, Josh, Natalie, Jackson and Justyn Carey, and Teagan and Graham Loch; and his brother, Allen (Phyllis) Detwiler.
A veteran of the Korean War, he was self employed as a barber for 25 years until his retirement. During retirement, Dan worked various jobs around Toledo.
Dan was a member of Monclova Road Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, canning with his wife, Phyllis, hunting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, where a funeral is at 10 a.m. Friday. Interment is in Wakeman Cemetery, Waterville.
