Charles H. Gruntz Jr., 86, of the Indian Lake area, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, in The Ohio State University Medical Center.
He was born June 9, 1927, to the late Charles H. Sr. and Dorothy Mae Welsh Gruntz. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell E. Gruntz.
Charles is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mildred; two children, Stephanie (Barry) Graul of Clarkston, Mich., and Charles Sanford “Sandy” Gruntz of Huntsville; his loving in-laws, Sandra (Scott) Capps and Linda Badgley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles graduated from Springfield High School and served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Harmony Lodge 8 F&AM, Antioch Temple, Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Council 59 and Chapter 34, Raper Commandery 19 Knights Templar of Urbana, and a life member of AMVETS 39.
He loved boating, square dancing and made many good friends and fellowships from them.
He worked in retail for many years and was a retired owner/operator of Gruntz IGA in Urbana.
Jeff Mullinix officiates a funeral at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel at Rose Hill Burial Park, Springfield, where visitation is 30 minutes prior.
Memorial donations may be made to Antioch Shriners Burn Center, Cincinnati; or the Diabetes Association.
Arrangements were handled by Conroy Funeral Home, Springfield.
