Emma Lucille Smucker, 97, of West Liberty, passed away Sunday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2013, at Green Hills Center.
She was born in Elida on April 26, 1916, to the late Christian B. and Rose Berry Breneman, the fourth of 10 children.
On June 30, 1940, she married Wilbert Franklin Smucker in Elida and he preceded her in death Jan. 4, 1985. She also was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Smucker, in 1945.
Survivors include her children, Russ (Linda) Smucker of Zanesville, Ron (Kathleen) Smucker of Galion, Kendal (Gloria) Smucker of Portland, Ore., Les (Christina) Smucker of East Liberty and Lorene (Mark) Carpenter of Bellefontaine; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clark Breneman of Alger; sister, Ann Meier of Lima; and sisters-in-law, Mabel Coblentz of Elida and Ruby Blosser of West Liberty; and sister, Shirley (Dwight) Hostetler of West Liberty.
Emma was salutatorian of the Gomer High School Class of 1933. She was a faithful member of Grace Chapel in West Liberty, where she taught Sunday School classes for many years.
An avid gardener, Emma was a longtime member of the West Liberty Garden Club. She is fondly remembered by many for the small concession stand she managed in connection with Wilbert’s Auction in West Liberty.
Pastor Josh Gelatt officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Chapel, West Liberty Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, West Liberty, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
