Karen Sue Fortman, 68, of Lakeview, formerly of Ottawa, died at 6:05 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
She was born in Lima on May 13, 1945, to the late Roger and Mary Ellen Croy Sneary. She also was preceded in death by her stepmother, Dorothy Lammers Sneary.
On Nov. 25, 1967, she married Tom Fortman and he survives in Lakeview, along with two sons, Fr. Tony Fortman, CPPS of Glandorf and Michael (Darcy Rieman) Fortman of Centerville; three grandchildren, Megan, Michael and Ashley Fortman; and a brother, Ron (Maddie) Sneary of Columbus Grove.
Karen worked as an aide for Putnam County Home Health and Hospice and had been a caretaker for the independent living program at Brookhill Center, Ottawa.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point, the Red Hat Ladies, Indian Lake Eagles and Moose, a volunteer for Putnam County Big Brothers and Sisters, Putnam County Companions to the Precious Blood and Parents of Priests for the Toledo Diocese, and was a 1964 graduate of Columbus Grove High School.
Karen loved vacationing in Florida for the winter, playing cards, going to garage sales, traveling, reading, visiting family and friends, attending masses led by her son, going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with her grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial is at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, with Fr. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial follows in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Ottawa. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, and from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the Mass Thursday at the church.
