Lawrence J. Thobe, 87, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 10, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Bellefontaine on April 27, 1926, to the late Edward N. and Odilla F. (Dapore) Thobe. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Mary T. Stevens, William “Bill” and Frank Thobe.
He married the former Florence Shafer in Indiana on July 22, 1945, (67 years ago) and she survives, along with their children, Valarie (Jeff) Latimer, Kim Thobe and Maryann Thobe, all of Bellefontaine; a granddaughter, Annie (Ben) Manbevers; a great-granddaughter, Faith Ann Manbevers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he worked for Penn Central and Conrail railroads for nearly 40 years as an electrician.
Most recently he had worked at Lowe’s in the electrical department for 10 years.
He loved fishing, attending auctions and was always looking for great bargains at Harbor Freight.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.
A graveside service begins at 10 a.m. Friday in the Huntsville Cemetery with Pastor Bryan Meadows officiating.
