Lawrence Clayton “Junior” Chiles, 84, of Lakeview, passed away peacefully at home in his favorite recliner Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013.
He was born in Lakeview on Sept. 29, 1928, to the late Lawrence and Ida Clayton Chiles. Junior also was preceded in death by one sister, Thalia Powell; and his aunt, Cleo Chiles.
On June 30, 1951, Junior married the former Kathleen Patricia “Pat” Brentlinger, who survives, along with two sons, Jim Chiles and Jeff Chiles; three grandchildren, Tiffany (Allen) Stoner, Danielle (Troy) Jenkins and Roger Chiles; four great-grandchildren, Kainan Stoner, Kyren Stoner, Alicia Jenkins and Clayton Jenkins; two sisters, Lucille (Bob) Workman and Mary Margaret Hutchison; and many nieces and nephews.
A farmer for most of his life, Junior loved working in the field and was very proud of his livestock. Later in life, he worked for the village of Lakeview. For the last several years, he worked full time for Lakeview Hardware, where he could be seen mowing, trimming, etc., all summer long.
Junior was a hard worker who loved to be outside. Some might say he didn’t know when to quit.
He was a lifetime member of the Doyle R. Miller AMVETS Post 39 Sons of AMVETS, where he helped in the kitchen many Friday nights. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed fishing, motorcycle trips, spending time with his family, and adopting every stray pet in the neighborhood.
Junior was an incredible man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Junior never wanted anyone to fuss over him, so at his request, there are no services.
