Harold P. Cayton, 87, of Roundhead, died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born in Roundhead Township, Hardin County, on Jan. 28, 1926, to the late John Reuben and Helen Elizabeth Poe Cayton.
On Dec. 16, 1956, he married the former Shirley Shutt in Bath Township, Allen County, and she survives, along with three sons, John (Martha) Cayton of Napoleon, Roger (Victoria) Cayton of Plainfield, Ill., and Joseph (Tarie) Cayton of Frisco, Texas; a daughter, Kathryn Cayton Dougherty of Bellefontaine; a sister, Doris Cayton Bracht of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Ashley, Eric, Riley and Matthew.
A 1943 graduate of Roundhead High School, Harold was a member of the Waynesfield United Methodist Church and the Waynesfield Lions Club. He also served on the Hardin Memorial Hospital Board and the Hardin County and Upper Scioto Valley Boards of Education.
He retired from the Ford Motor Company, Lima Engine Plant, as a quality control engineer after 30 years of service.
He and his wife visited 33 countries and he enjoyed playing golf and watching the Cincinnati Reds.
The Rev. Kathleen Hayes officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at Waynesfield United Methodist Church. Burial is in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Armentrout Funeral Home, Waynesfield, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Harvest of Hope ministry of Waynesfield UMC or Mary Rutan Hospital.
