She was born in Lakeview on June 27, 1928, to the late Daniel L. and Gladys Houchins Hurley. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Daniel Hurley; former husbands, Russell Pulfer and Gleston Titus; and recently by a very special friend and soul mate, Everett L. Cook.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Michael (Bettie) Pulfer of Bowling Green, Ky., and Phillip (Pamela) Pulfer of Bellefontaine; six grandchildren, Amy Pulfer, Andy Pulfer and Alan Pulfer, all of Bellefontaine, Ryan Pulfer of Tallahassee, Fla., Jessica Pulfer of Key West, Fla., and Tessie Titus of Marysville; eight great-grandchildren, Adam (Tiffanee) Pulfer, Leiah Lehman, Alex Pulfer, Austen Pulfer and Collen Pulfer, all of Bellefontaine, Cameron and Caleb Pulfer, both of Kenton, and Owen Pulfer of Tallahassee; two great-great-grandchildren, Adalynn Peterson and Sophia Pulfer, both of Bellefontaine; a sister, Elaine Krouskop of West Chester; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley retired in 1996 as director of JTPA for Logan County. She also worked at Sears-Roebuck and Logan County Children’s Services over the years and was instrumental in helping a great many people find jobs in Logan County.

She was a foster parent for many years and helped to raise many troubled youths. She was a very devoted and loving mother and grandparent. She loved to cook, especially bake, as well as play cards and have family gatherings.

She was happiest when her family and friends were near. Shirley never hesitated to help anyone in their time of need. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
