Edwin L. Arnett, 93, of North Ft. Myers, Fla., formerly of Bellefontaine, passed away Thursday evening, June 13, 2013, at Hope Hospice House, Cape Coral, Fla.
He was born in Jackson Center on Dec. 15, 1919, to the late Logan and Sophia Zwiebel Arnett.
On Dec. 9, 1945, he married the former Margery June Pence in Jackson Center and she preceded him in death Jan. 15, 1995. Ed also was preceded in death by an infant sister and son-in-law, Doug Baron.
Ed is survived by his children, Richard “Dick” (Jan) Arnett of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Susan Baron of North Ft. Myers, Fla.; three grandchildren, Nathan (Lesley) Arnett, Shawn (Erin) Arnett and Lyndsay (Jake) Proctor; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Fasshauer of Bellefontaine; and several nieces and nephews.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, Ed spent 13 months as a prisoner of war in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, Ed returned to Logan County and worked as a parts manager and mechanic at Alloway Sales and Service. He later worked in machine repair at Detroit Aluminum & Brass before retiring in 1976.
Ed was a life-member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, playing bridge and watching sports.
Pastor Gene Marine conducts a graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday in Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty, where the Logan County Honor Guard provides military honors.
