Clarence Lee Owens, 63, of Bellefontaine, was surrounded by his family as he went to be with the Lord on May 20, 2013, after battling multiple life-threatening events during the last 20 years.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jean; son Rick (Lori) Owens of Edmond, Okla.; his daughter, Mindy (Theron) France of Bellefontaine; his grandchildren, Carter and Brady Owens, and Aleah and Cara France; his mother, Pauline Owens; his brothers, Bill Owens, Fred (Linda) Owens and Steve (Janet) Owens; and sister, Tressa (Dick) McMullen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Owens; and his brother, Jim Owens.
A loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all, Clarence was an electrical engineer for GTE for 21 years until he was forced to give up the career because of illness.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 62 of Marion and attended the Rushsylvania Church of Christ.
He enjoyed watching and playing sports and coached baseball in Marion for more than 10 years. He loved watching his kids participate in all of their activities and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play and especially laugh.
He loved helping people and he loved his family. He also loved children, working on cars and learning about anything. He was a perfectionist, always rooted for the underdog, didn’t sleep much, and didn’t sit long.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Berean Baptist Church, Marion, and from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, where Pastor Lynn Cleaveland officiates a service at 2 p.m. Clarence will be laid to rest at the Alexander Cemetery, Athens.
