Robert F. Pence, 80, of Huntsville, passed away Wednesday evening, March 13, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Goshen Township, Auglaize County, on Jan. 5, 1933, to the late Herbert T. and Pauline H. McClellan Pence.
On April 17, 1960, he married the former Shirley C. Saltz at the North Greenfield Methodist Church and she survives, along with three sons, Michael E. (Karen) Pence of Lakeview, Kevin S. Pence of Pawhuska, Okla., and Darrin J. (Kristal) Pence of Bellefontaine; three grandchildren, Austin Pence, Katlyn Pence and Chase Pence; three stepgrandchildren, Tina Futrell, Tracy Futrell and Diana Futrell; five great-stepgrandchildren, Michael Futrell, Makalia Futrell, Sage Futrell, Emily Beach and Kali McLin; brother, Myron Eugene (Pat) Pence of Columbus; and a sister, Judith K. (Don) Muchmore of West Jefferson.
A veteran of the United States Army, he was a member of the Huntsville Presbyterian Church and VFW Post 8832, Roundhead. He owned and operated Gillen Garage near Huntsville, worked at Earl W. Miller and Westinghouse in Bellefontaine and retired from Indian Lake Schools in 1998 after 18 years.
He enjoyed working on small engines, working in the garden and yardwork, and traveling. He loved being with his family and playing cards with his grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, where a funeral begins at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial is in Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty.
