Joseph Edward Slavin, 69, of DeGraff, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Heartland of Indian Lake Rehab.
He was born in Dayton on March 15, 1943, to the late William E. and Anna L. Springer Slavin. He also was preceded in death by a sister, B. Jean Baker.
On July 3, 2000, he married the former Sandra Orahood at the Doyle R. Miller AMVETS Post 39 in Lakeview, and she survives, along with a son, William (Mindy) Slavin of Russells Point; stepdaughter, Kristi (Gary Jr.) Comer of Bellefontaine; five grandchildren, Joseph, Teighlor, Timothy, Troy and Kelsey; two stepgrandchildren, Noah and Meristin; great-grandson, Damian; and a niece, Mary Lynn Tschabrun.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was a skilled tradesman and worked as a brick mason and mechanic. He also owned and operated a locksmith business in Sarasota, Fla., and a bait shop in Venice, Fla.
He was a life member and past commander of Doyle R. Miller AMVETS Post 39. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting.
The Rev. Dwight Metzger conducts a funeral at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, with visitation two hours prior. Burial is in Roundhead Cemetery, with military rites performed by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
