AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio man and his 19-year-old son are embarking on a hitchhiking trip to Florida and up the East Coast after completing a similar journey to California and back last year.
The Akron Beacon Journal (http://bit.ly/1o6x70R) reports Michael Gibson and his son, Scott Fritts, planned to set off Saturday from their home in Rittman, about 15 miles southwest of Akron. They'll travel south from West Virginia to the Florida Keys, then north to Maine via Historic Route 1.
They say excitement and support has replaced the apprehension expressed by others last year when the pair left for California with their backpacks and no more than $105 cash. Online videos documented their 16-day adventure.
This time, they're taking skates to help them in big cities and areas with sparse traffic.
