LLOYD, Ky. (AP) — A northeastern Kentucky sheriff says a teenager charged with bringing a gun to Greenup County High School before a football game purchased the weapon from an Ohio man he contacted on the Internet.
Sheriff Keith Cooper told The Independent (http://bit.ly/1714LjM ) that he interviewed the man, but wasn't sure if any charged would be filed.
The 15-year-old is a student at Greenup County High. School district safe schools coordinator Scarlet Shoemaker says the teen never pulled the gun, but instead showed it to other students about two hours before Friday night's homecoming game with Johnson County.
Shoemaker says he surrendered the weapon and ammunition without incident.
Cooper says the teen told investigators "he just wanted to look cool."
Cooper says the incident appears to be a case of poor judgment.
