RAVENNA, Ohio (AP) — A man accused of fatally beating a Kent State University student in a 2009 street fight has been convicted of murder and felonious assault.
The verdict in the retrial of Adrian Barker, of Shaker Heights in suburban Cleveland, came Thursday. The 25-year-old Barker was a University of Akron student when accused of killing Christopher Kernich, of Fairborn.
The Akron Beacon Journal (http://bit.ly/16eFmTg ) reports Portage County Common Pleas Judge John Enlow immediately sentenced Barker to 15 years to life in prison — the same sentence he received during his 2010 trial.
Barker won a new trial last year when an Ohio appeals court reversed his convictions after ruling that Enlow failed to tell jurors they could consider convictions on lesser charges.
Barker's attorney didn't immediately return a request for comment Friday.
