WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) — Immigration change advocates plan to rally at a southwest Ohio district office of U.S. House Speaker John Boehner.
The umbrella group Alliance for Citizenship says it has collected hundreds of thousands of petitions urging Boehner to bring up immigration reform for a vote. Supporters of providing a path to citizenship for immigrants in the United States illegally have been trying during the congressional recess to pressure House Republicans on the issue.
House GOP members have expressed opposition to a Senate immigration overhaul bill that includes eventual access to citizenship for 11 million immigrants already in the country illegally.
The immigration change group says speakers will discuss the summer campaign and its plans to keep up pressure at the rally in West Chester, a northern Cincinnati suburb.
