NE Ohio group gets $10K donated after teens' crash

WARREN, Ohio (AP) — A community group launching an educational program is getting more than $10,000 originally collected to help cover funeral costs for six northeast Ohio teens killed when a speeding sport utility vehicle crashed into a pond.

The Tribune Chronicle ( ) reports $61,000 was collected after the March 10 crash in Warren killed the 19-year-old driver and five of the seven boys riding with her.

The Greater Warren-Youngstown Urban League is getting what's left of the donated money. The nonprofit organization says it will go toward an initiative that will use a software program to help local students surpass high school and college-level education requirements.

The organization's president says he hasn't spoken with relatives of the crash victims. Some relatives have criticized how the donated money was disbursed.
