YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — A northeastern Ohio city has honored an airman for quick thinking for helping a man who lost his leg in a car accident.
The city of Youngstown on Wednesday recognized Senior Airman Steve Cresanto, who is assigned to an Air Force unit near Youngstown.
Cresanto was driving home in February when he stopped to help two men with a disabled car. Just then, another vehicle hit one of the men.
Trained to make do with what's available, he used a windshield wiper as a tourniquet to stem the bleeding.
Police Detective Sgt. Patricia Garcar tells The (Youngstown) Vindicator (bit.ly/YCynMf) the action probably saved a life.
Cresanto will be deployed to southwest Asia on Monday for six months. It's the third deployment for the six-year Air Force veteran.
