COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police in central Ohio say a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot by a resident after he broke into an apartment.
Columbus police said it happened Wednesday night on the city's north side.
The teen, whose name hasn't been released, was shot after breaking in through a front window. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the man who shot the intruder was interviewed afterward and was cooperative. He wasn't charged, and his name hasn't been released yet.
The investigation continues. In apparent cases of self-defense, evidence is typically handed over to a grand jury to make a determination.
