Steel-driving good time

John-Henry-1

Bob Lucas, Mad River Theater Works creative director, left, and actor Ernest Jordan perform the original one-act play with music John Henry for Adriel School students Thursday morning. In the legend of John Henry, the prowess of the steel driver who worked on the railroad was measured in a race against a steam-powered hammer. John Henry won the contest, only to die in victory with his hammer in his hand after his heart stopped. Mad River Theater Works also presents John Henry at 7 p.m. Thursday at the MRTW building, 2790 Sandusky St., Zanesfield. There is a $10 suggested donation for the all-ages show. This summer, the theater company will conduct a residency with Adriel students as well. (PHOTO | ADRIEL SCHOOL)
