A total of 35 members of the West Liberty-Salem FFA Chapter attended the 85th Ohio FFA Convention during May at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus.
During one of the sessions, Cole Piatt received his State FFA Degree.
Abbie Loffing also was recognized for her gold-rated reporter’s book, while Gabe Lawson was honored for his gold-rated treasurer’s book.
The WL-S Poultry team was also recognized for their first place finish at the Ohio FFA Poultry Finals. Team members who will advance to the national finals in Louisville, Ky., are senior Sarah Williams, sophomores Jordon Wolfe and Bethany Maytas and freshman Jonathon Wolfe, as previously reported in the Examiner.
Additional poultry team members who took part in the Ohio semi-final qualification contest included senior Abbie Loffing, junior Catherine Williams, and sophomores Victoria Benefiel and Keri White.
Also, FFA members were recognized for their $1,600 donation to Children’s Hospital.
Other WL-S participants who attended the convention included seniors Miranda McNutt and Garret Rudasill; juniors Morgan Loverde, Seth McNutt, Katie Overholt and Zach Smith; sophomores Ben Bowden, Casy Brinkman, Kylie Detwiler, Emily Hyland, Kayla King, Lauralee Lenhart, Mason McKeever, Sam Warye, Hunter Woodruff; and freshmen: Brad Burt, Kaden Cox, Austin Hild, Rachael Hostetler, Tyler Pratt, Gage Rudasill, Justin Saylers, Reeses Shafer, Becky Wilkins and Logan Woolley.
At the final session of convention, FFA members listened to Shelby Faulkner give her retiring address as state president of the Ohio FFA Association. The new state FFA officers were introduced and took their place of former officers.
Also during their time in Columbus, members volunteered at the Columbus Zoo and Zoombezi Bay water park to help with landscaping.
