Quilters at the Friendly Senior Center are donating 105 hand-decorated pillowcases for the third annual Miles of Pillowcase Smiles, ConKerr Cancer’s signature event, to coincide with National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. For their first year of participation, the local quilters hope to collect 500 pillowcases during September, to be donated to Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House in Columbus. According to founder Cindy Kerr, the pillowcase project helps “make life a little brighter for children fighting cancer — something positive in a world filled with negativity.” Local quilters included, from left, seated: Carol Parker, Sue Wilgus and Pat Wax; standing: Dorothy Longbrake, Phyllis Johnson and Leslie Sharp.
