During its regular meeting Tuesday, Quincy Village Council asked residents to be aware of excess water on their properties as the village is experiencing a large volume of water use at this time and a problem has not been located.

Stapleton bond set at $1 million

URBANA — A Champaign County Municipal Court judge set Michael Stapleton’s bond at $1 million last week.

Stapleton was arraigned on charges of murder and felonious assault in connection to the Nov. 29 death of Brett Jaynes, 4. He did not enter a plea and was appointed an attorney.

URBANA — A North Lewisburg man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of 4-year-old Brett Jaynes, deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff's Office report.

Michael C. R. Stapleton, 25, has been charged with murder and felonious assault following the North Lewisburg boy's death Sunday evening at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.

The Champaign County Prosecutor's Office and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are assisting deputies with the investigation.

The Franklin County Coroner's Office is expected to perform an autopsy on the boy this week.

The suspect was lodged in the Tri-County Regional Jail.

Authorities investigate 4-year-old boy's death

NORTH LEWISBURG — Deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff's Office are investigating the death of a 4-year-old North Lewisburg boy.

Deputies responded about 1:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of an unresponsive child in a home in the 200 block of Gunn Street in the village.

The boy was taken to a Union County hospital before being flown by medical helicopter to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.

He was pronounced dead around 7 p.m, deputies said.

Northeast Champaign County Fire and EMS Department also responded to the scene.

Authorities have not released the child's identity.
