Residents still seek action on The Warehouse

Residents near The Warehouse, 301 Carter Ave., continued their push for action Tuesday to quiet the bar and its patrons.

Roy Jenkins, a Carter Avenue resident, asked the Bellefontaine City Council to do something.

“I know you all are getting tired of hearing this,” he said, “but I am too.

“It’s getting so we can’t spend a quiet evening outside.”

Jane Taylor, a Plumvalley Street resident who has made multiple appearances before the council, asked if the city was any closer to an improved ordinance.

City Law Director Howard Traul II said he has several model ordinances but has not yet determined which might work here.

He acknowledged he has not yet met with City Prosecutor Bill Goslee and Rules Committee Chairwoman Diane Hager about the ordinances.

Mr. Traul did not give a time when he would meet with them nor a time when the ordinance might come before the council.

Mr. Jenkins encouraged the city to consider enforcing laws prohibiting modified exhausts to curb noisy motorcycles and cars.

“If we would have done something like that as kids, our dads would’ve put an end to it,” he said. “It’s just not respectful of others.”

In regular action, the council approved spending around $70,000 on a new 911 system.

The members also approved using a portion of city-owned land in the 800 block of south Detroit Street for a 24-hour recycling center funded and operated by the Logan County Solid Waste District.

The council’s next meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 12. Standing committee meetings are: Finance at 6:30 p.m. before each council meeting and Safety 6 p.m. before the first meeting of each month.
