Increased enforcement through Labor Day

This year’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign has yielded six impaired driving arrests and three felony drug arrests thus far, and troopers from the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol again will be out in full force this weekend through Labor Day, Lt. Ron Raines reports.

Year-to-date, troopers have made 205 local impaired driving arrests, Lt. Raines reports. Through the first eight months of the year, alcohol has proven a factor in 28 percent of all fatal traffic crashes — a 13 percent increase over 2011, according to a press release issued Thursday.

Federal funding allows for extra patrol for all divisions of law enforcement through Monday. Lt. Raines notes the Marysville post will have 150 additional man hours patrolling through the holiday weekend.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to designate a driver when alcohol will be involved during holiday weekend festivities.
