Property owner helps identify burglary suspect

Richard C. Deckling, 18, of 9160 County Road 153, East Liberty, was charged Wednesday with one count of felony burglary following an investigation into a break-in earlier this week.

About 4 a.m. Monday, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to Jack Hardman’s residence, 9332 County Road 153, East Liberty, in reference to a burglary, as previously reported in the Examiner

Mr. Hardman reported seeing someone with a flashlight on his property.

When deputies arrived, they located signs of a break-in and attempted theft from a barn on the property. The suspect had fled the area after being confronted by the property owner.

The victim was able to provide deputies with a detailed description of the suspect, and deputies were able to use that information to assist in their investigation.

Mr. Deckling was arrested and lodged in the Logan County Jail about 1:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies do not believe this incident is related to a previously reported burglary and assault May 23 that took place at a residence located along County Road 146. A female resident returned home and was assaulted by a male suspect who was burglarizing her residence. Deputies continue to investigate that incident.
