Riverside Board of Education members took action at their Wednesday evening meeting to promote a long-time district teacher to serve as the new Riverside Junior High and High School Principal.
Kelly Kauffman, former seventh- and eighth-grade language arts teacher, was extended a three-year administrative contract that is effective Aug. 1. Her salary was set at $64,000.
She will replace former Riverside principal Andy McGill, whose resignation is effective July 31. He is moving into a position with the West Liberty-Salem School District, Superintendent Scott Mann said.
A 1993 Riverside High School graduate, Ms. Kauffman has worked in the district for 12 years, also serving as a sixth-grade teacher and a fourth-grade teacher.
"I am thrilled to be here," Ms. Kauffman said. "I think it's a rare opportunity when someone walks the halls of a school as a child and then gets to come back and work as a teacher and then a principal. It is both an honor and a privilege.
"Mr. McGill left the school in a good place, and he has served as a great mentor to me. I want to work my hardest to make sure Riverside achieves its potential and prepares our students to head out into the world and be successful adults.
"It's going to be a challenge, but I like a challenge. I've gotten to know the students as their teacher, and now I'll have that advantage as their new principal."
