Driver charged with OVI

BellefontainePolice patch

Judy Martin, 49, of 184 E. Center St., West Mansfield, was charged Wednesday with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. She also was cited for failure to use turn signals, failure to drive in the marked lanes of the road and no operator’s license.

An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department was on patrol in the 2100 block of south Main Street behind the motorist when she abruptly changed from a southbound through lane into a turn lane without signaling.

She proceeded to turn left onto Gunntown Road and then right into Murphy USA gas station, 200 Gunntown Road, without signaling either time.

The officer stopped her and soon noticed a strong odor of alcohol as he talked with her. There were two beer cans in rear passenger seat cupholders and a plastic cup containing beer in a front cupholder, all cold to touch.

Field sobriety tests indicated she was under the influence. She submitted a breath test and recorded a sample of .219, more than twice the legal limit of .08.
