A mother-daughter duo took away the top two places in the adult baked cake competition Friday at the Logan County Fair.

First-place winner, Rebekah Dodson, 24, of West Liberty, and her mother, Kathy Dodson, 52, of East Liberty, made their cakes together.
The recipe for the cake — a red astoria cake — was in this year’s fair tab and all the participants used it for this competition.
“I think everything was the same brand,” said Ms. Dodson about the cake’s typical ingredients. “Except for my buttermilk. I used store bought, while my mother made the buttermilk herself.”
